The North Missouri Cross State Highway

Missouri's forgotten early 20th century autotrail.

Information is from Volume 5 of the 1918 Official Automobile Blue Book (Unless where noted.), the Kansas City Star & the Chariton Courier (Keytesville, MO).

 Part 3 - Richmond, MO to Carrollton, MO

From Richmond, MO to Carrollton, MO, the route roughly follows MO 10, with some exceptions.

The route leaves Richmond, MO on E. Main St. (BUS 10) & then follows Coo Ln (Briefly), Old 10 Hwy, MO 10, Field Road, Old 10 Hwy (Again), MO 10 (Again), before entering Hardin, MO on NW 5th St.

When entering Hardin, MO, the autotrail heads South on NW 5th St, before heading East on Mansur St. After following Mansur St, East 4 blocks, the trail turned South on Morton St, 1 block & then East 1 block on Parkway St, for 1 block, to NE 1st St (MO J), turning 2 blocks South to E Elm St, crossing railroad tracks & turning East on E Elm St, for 2 blocks to NE 3rd St & following NE 3rd St South to At the intersection of NE 3rd St & South St, the trail turned East & leaves Hardin, MO on South St.
Between Hardin, MO & Norbourne, MO, the road follows South St, MO 10, CR 511 (Briefly), CR 141 (Also briefly), MO 10 (Again), CR 508A, CR 513.

Upon entering Norbourne, MO, CR 513 becomes S Maple St & the trail follows it to E 4th St, where the autotrail turns 1 block East to S Elm St & then turns North 2 blocks to E 2nd St, then North on S Pine St, 4 blocks, crossing railroad tracks, to E Park St.

The autotrail leaves Norbourne, MO, on E Park St. & follows CR 613, CR 638, CR 615, CR 636, CR 623, CR 636 (Again) before crossing 2 railroad tracks at W.B. Junction (Crossing has since been eliminated - see 1st picture below.), MO 10 (Once again briefly before crossing railroad track, at a long defunct railroad crossing - see 1st & 2nd picture below.), CR 637 (Briefly) & CR 634.

Upon entering Carrollton, MO, CR 634 becomes Stonewall St & the autotrail follows it to S Main St. At S Main St, the autotrail heads North to East Benton St. Also there was a spur route that headed South to Waverly, MO, crossing the Missouri River, which provided a connection between the North Missouri Cross State Highway & the National Old Trails Road. In the location where S Main St crosses Wakenda Creek, prior to 1919, there was a covered bridge. Carrollton, MO was the headquarters of the North Missouri Cross State Highway.
